The Gateway to the Blue Ridge Mountains

The Setting
Oconee State Park serves as both a destination itself and as a gateway for visitors to the Blue Ridge and Great Smoky mountains. Located on a high plateau in the foothills, the 1,165-acre park offers cabins, camping, fishing and boating in two small lakes, hiking on eight nature/hiking trails, plus several picnic areas and shelters and meeting facilities. The park is bordered by Sumter National Forest and is the trailhead for the 85-mile Foothills Trail. It's near the Chattooga and Chauga rivers and other regional attractions. More than 100 species of wildlife live at the park, which also features a mix of mountain and foothill flora and scenic vistas.

  • Six hiking and nature trails that originate on the park
  • The park is an access point to the Foothills Trail
  • Gravel sites with water & electric some accommodate RVs up to 35 feet long
  • Comfort stations with restrooms and hot showers
  • Picnic table at each site

  • 140 gravel sites with electric & water, for RVs or tents
  • 15 designated tent sites with tent pads & centralized water
  • Primitive group camping area for organized groups of up to 50 people with central water and nearby restrooms

Camping Tips

  • Don't forget to pick up park and nearby attraction literature at the Park Office
  • Visit the park store for limited grocery items, souvenirs & firewood
  • Pedal boat and canoe rentals available
  • Civilian Conservation Corps stonework and craftsmanship is visible on the park, as well as displays in the CCC park museum.

Directions
Twelve miles northwest of Walhalla off SC Hwy 28 onto SC Hwy 107. From Interstate 85: take Exit 1 to SC Hwy 11 toward Walhalla. From Hwy 11 take Hwy 28 into Walhalla. Travel through Walhalla and continue for approximately 10 miles. Turn right onto Hwy 107 and the park will be 2 miles on the right.
